The Italian association of music critics has awarded Lorenzo Ghielmi’s recording of Bach’s Partitas, released in March 2021 by Passacaille. The harpsichordist appears on the list alongside such prestigious artists as Simon Rattle, Klaus Mäkelä, Toon Koopman and Jordi Savall.

Until 1800, performer and the composer were equal partners. Today, it is the performer who brings the score to life. The idea of creating a platform for music by living composers in which the performer plays an important role was born after listening to improvisations for cello and piano by Arne Deforce and Johan Huys. 

The freedom and creativity of the performers and the attention to timbre and instruments in this new series fit perfectly with Passacaille’s mission.

Congratulations to the Romanian pianist who is indeed on a mission to change the perception of Czerny, remained in the popular recollection mostly as a teacher and creator of numerous study works. 

On this album, Aurelia Vişovan presents Czerny’s Grande Sonate to the public for the very first time on a fortepiano, alongside Schubert’s dramatic Sonata in C minor, D. 958, composed in the same year, only a few months after Beethoven’s death.
